Hello blog! I know its been a while but I'm ending 2016 on a more positive note and hoping that 2017 will become the year of the blog. Anyways here are some of the trends I saw and took part in during this past year. P.S. most of this comes from my Pinterest board (@thora) and my Instagram (@trulythora) if you want to see more.
P.S.S. This is so late it's more like I'm jump starting the middle of 2017 but that's ok.
Off the Shoulder

Honestly this trend is one of my favorites. No matter what an off the shoulder top makes everyone look good and feel like Kendall Jenner strutting the runway. Also as an added plus in the summer these are great for removing terrible bikini strap tan lines. If you're looking for one at a decent price range I suggest Franchescas' or Urban Outfitters :)
Strappy Sandals

Straps, straps, and more straps. Sandals became super big this summer which created a new frenzy for different styles, straps, and of course tassels. Although they weren't all comfortable these cute shoes provided for endless insta pics and compliments which is a definite plus.
Graphic Tees

Whether its a funny saying or an inspiring phrase graphic tees are an essential part of everyone's closet. This year these shirts seemed to grow in popularity as fashionistas paired them with jean jackets or ripped jeans to share their favorite message.
Glitter

Glitter, glitter, and more glitter. In 2016 glitter went from Coachella, to glitter roots, and even extreme highlighter. This flashy trend may have gone a little too far but to me glitter brings back childhood memories and a quick way to add some sparkle. My only tip for this is to make sure you can wash it out, after the insta pics of course.
Embroidery

Although it was a small trend, embroidery has gone from runways to finally commercial stores like PacSun or Urban Outfitters. From getting shirts saying "I need my space" or hats channeling your inner feminist this trend allowed for a lot of creativity. For example the originals of many of these embroideries were originally hand done (diy style) by hipsters who just wanted a creative outlet.
Brands

Is that #mycalvins or is it Tommy? Brands went to an extreme this year starting with the famous Calvin Klein sports bra set and ending up with Adidas logos covering everything. Calvin simply "logoed" the elastic part of his bra and underwear set and soon brnads like Tommy Hilfiger copied by attaching their logo to every part of the clothing. Now it seems as though we are going back to the Abercrombie days were wearing a huge name across your chest is what's cool.
Denim

Honestly I could do an entire post on how many jean trends emerged last year but I'm going to try and sum it all up. A classic trend with a new twist was ripped jeans which featured embroidery, patches, and sometimes even glitter. These jeans became retro-chic, futuristc, and a must have for any closet including my own. In other news jean on jean stepped off the runway again and isn't the worst thing in the world. With some confidence (as seen above) this trend is rock-able any day of the week. Other jean trends included overalls, because you can't be 90s grunge without owning a pair. Jeans are always an essential but 2016 really illustrated how some small changes to a classic design can really make things interesting.
Holographic

I'm no expert on this trend but from what I have learned holographic means shifting rainbows and none of that pretend shiny stuff. Either way this trend is seen EVERYWHERE as people became obsessed with it along with unicorns and mermaids. The shirt on the left is from urban and is probably in everyone's closet right now as well as the jeans although they have since sold out and are now a diy-only. The hair on the other hand is simply a beautiful creation of a unicorn crazed fan and the nail polish can now be found at any local drug store. This trend is perfect for any coachella - edm type concerts or just a fun day out and I definitely approve.
Neon

Bright lights and city skies can now be easily purchased at your local hipsters-r-us but hey who's complaining? I noticed this trend popping up at the end of the year in some Bloomingdale's ads and can only imagine where it will go from there. Clearly there are a lot of variations, each one seems more hip than the last, but is this trend practical? Do you really want a neon sign in your bedroom? Apparently the answer is yes because with a diy version available, as there always is, these signs can now be showcased anywhere you see fit.
