Spring Summer 2022 Looks - House of Cards

This comes from a presentation I did with a group of classmates, Wyatt and Heine, wherein we forecasted the trends for Spring/Summer 2022. Our theme was Polar, the idea that our society has become divided and will continue to stay divided which will trickle into fashion trends. This was one of the looks in our forecast and it focused on one end of the "polar" spectrum, military. The looks here feature black, faux leather, and belts combined with some feminine aspects.

In our research as a group, we found that one end of the "polar" spectrum was trending towards military. In Heliot Emil and Maison Margiela's runways these military looks are more literal, but in others they are interpreted through trims and finishes. Features from these looks such as combat boots are already trending now in key items such as the rise of Doc Martins. However, we do think the trends from these looks are on the early acceptance level of Maslow's Theory of Diffusion and therefore not on the mass acceptance level yet. We predict these trends are going to trickle down from influencers such as Billie Eilish and Harry Styles who are often on the early acceptance level of the fashion cycle.

Overall I think the idea of combining this trend with some feminine aspects is going to be exciting to see and helpful to grow this trend within a larger market. I think this trend represents the side of polar that is currently protesting, either on the side of pro-choice, pro gun restrictions or on the opposite of pro-life, pro second amendment, etc. I think it will be interesting to see how this trend grows and if it becomes a larger trend on one side of polar than the other.
