This comes from a presentation I did with a group of classmates, Wyatt and Heine, wherein we forecasted the trends for Spring/Summer 2022. Our theme was Polar, the idea that our society has become divided and will continue to stay divided which will trickle into fashion trends. This was one of the looks in our forecast and it focused on one end of the "polar" spectrum, femininity. The looks are flown, light, filled with ruffled trims and chiffon. I think this trend is going to grow as the third wave of feminism has hit society, the Women's March era, and women are taking back control of their femininity. I personally, like the idea of moving away from boyfriend jeans and into flow dresses. However, my forecast team and I also believe this is only part of the Spring/Summer 2022 forecast, because not everyone is going to be on the side of girly looks.
In our research our team found that these looks are becoming prevalent in fashion shows like Alexander McQueen and Vera Wang, but they have not yet reached the mass acceptance level of Maslow's Theory of Diffusion. In two years our group predicts that this trend will grow through influencers like Harry Styles and trickle down from these runway shoes into the mass acceptance level. Harry Styles often combines masculinity and femininity and therefore would be a huge influencer of this trend from brands that he works with such as Gucci.
Overall I think these looks are super playful, fun, and allow a new excitement in the fashion industry. I personally, love the streetwear trends of baggy sweatshirts combined with biker shorts, but I would be happy to have some new styles of dresses and femininity mixed in.
